Leicester’s Heart Sauce are celebrating the release of their latest single, How Many Tears Does The Human Race Cry in a Year? With velvety vocals and textured guitars, they’re one of the resident artists at 247 Studios, alongside Hard Life and Mouth Culture.
We caught up with Dan from the band to find out more about life the band and their upcoming plans.
How would you describe Heart Sauce’s music and style for anyone who hasn’t heard you before?
The four of us each have our own different inspirations that we bring to the sound so we have the habit to genre hop. All the way from shoegaze to disco to jazz and a bit of country. It’s quite a musical cocktail. When we write we follow the vibe to the end and for us that keeps things exciting and expansive.

You’ve got a new single out, tell us about that and what it signifies for you?
The song came pretty quick, and that’s usually a good sign. It was purely written with no real intention for it to be released. The song itself is about a close friend we lost a few years ago, Jean, and taking a closer look at the issues we as people face day to day. As a person they were super inspirational so we owe a lot of our love for music to them. They had a huge impact on a lot of people, especially musically and to have a piece of them in a song feels really special. As a local Leicester band, how important is the local scene and what can people do to support it?
Super, super important! We’re fortunate to be residents at 247 studios with a huge musically community. Being neighbours with artists like Hard Life, Mouth Culture, Güdness, YUQT is very cool. these kinds of spaces definitely allow us as artists to evolve and collaborate on a shared love for music. But yeah I think community is definitely ideal for the music scene to flourish. Making friends who are in other bands or projects and putting on events together is one of the things we love the most about being in a band. I suppose the first point of call is going to a local show!
Tell us about some of your highlights since being in the band?
To handpick a couple of highlights, the UK tour we went on at the end of last year supporting Mouth Culture was something that we all collectively feel was one of the best things we’ve done as people in general! It was on a much larger scale than what we’ve ever done before so it felt like a huge step up. Another highlight was supporting Hard Life at Rock City in Nottingham, then at the O2 for their Christmas show. For a lot of people who grew up in the East Midlands those two venue were where we first experienced touring level acts so it meant a lot to be playing our songs on those stages. Incredibly grateful to be given opportunities like those!
What’s next for you as a band?
We have two headline shows to celebrate the release of new music! The first in London, then a hometown show at Firebug Saturday May 2nd.
